Breastfeeding While Babywearing: Video Tutorials

Abby Theuring, The Badass Breastfeeder, breastfeeding while babywearing.

I have put together a list of videos to demonstrate how you can breastfeed in the four popular types of baby carriers. I have enlisted the help of the amazing Jillian from Paxbaby.com.

  1. All of the Soft Structured Carrier/Buckle Carrier videos are of much older babies than mine. I haven’t watched the other videos yet, but I would love to see how best to nurse my 7 week old in the ergo with the infant insert.

    • That… I never figured out. Sorry =( But I could nurse my baby from a very young age in a mei tai.

    • rachael, if you go to the PAXbaby mom channel on youtube, Jillian demonstrates how to nurse a newborn in a soft structured carrier (Beco). She has several videos about nursing in her Beco carriers from when her most recent baby was born. Just browse all of her videos and you will find them. Good luck! I hope this helps!

  2. You should add a picture so this could be pinned. These are so useful!!

  3. I have an eight week old and completely believe in babywearing but I don’t know about many carriers outside of my baby bjorn. I’m assuming there’s no way to nurse a baby in one of those because I can’t find any videos on it. Is that right? Am I better off getting a different carrier? If so which? Thanks for any input!

    • I would also like to know if you can BF in my baby bjorn active! I cant figure it out

      • You can. It might be more difficult due to the straps that come really close to the neck and cover the access to the breast, but you can pull it to the side or something. Try lowering it.

  4. In all the videos I’ve look at with baby wearing and nursing everyone has these perfect little perky boobs and it looks super easy, but what about those of use that have too much boob? Is it even possible to do an upright feeding with no hands? I’ve nursed in a ring sling but my little guy had to be reclined and I had to be sitting because I couldn’t figure out how to secure it tightly enough without his entire face being totally pressed into my boob… never mind switching sides and setting him all up again. please shed some light on this. There must be some trick I’m missing.

    • I’m with Karen. When you have larger breasts sitting or laying down makes things easier. And I usually have to us a hand so LO can still breath out his nose. Bookmarked this. Can’t wait to try!

    • I can only nurse in the football hold, when someone can figure out how to do that while baby wearing I would be a happy mamma!

      • You can nurse in the football hold in ring sling. Jan Andrea at sleeping baby productions (sleepingbaby.net) has directions and a picture showing how. I haven’t tried it yet but it looks pretty simple.

  5. I’m with the other ladies. I have large breasts and my DD is 9 weeks old. I have a Moby and I’m looking to get a wrap. I can’t figure out how to nurse in my Moby!

  6. Thansk for all this info! I was wondering how breastfeeding in a carrier would work out. Seems like it would be super handy.

  7. Meghan Kowalik says:

I’m larger breasted as well and now nursing #3 baby. I’ve never figured out how to nurse in a carrier. I pretty much have to be seated with something on my side to support baby’s legs while I nurse in football hold. The hand on the nursing side supports baby’s head. The opposite hand holds back extra boob so baby can breathe. I can kind of nurse in the Moby if I pull the “rail”down to my side to support baby. But I still really need both hands. Makes nip tough sometimes
