International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding – June 27, 2015

On June 27, 2015 the Mayor of San Diego, Kevin Faulconer, will proclaim the first International Day to Normalize Breastfeeding. What breastfeeding looks like is different for mothers depending on their community of lactation support, culture, birth experience, method of delivery, financial circumstance, and their knowledge of its benefits for their baby/child. Through NormalizeBreastfeeding.org, a breastfeeding awareness media campaign, photographer Vanessa Simmons’ mission is to document diverse variations of normal breastfeeding – normalize the many methods of delivery of breast milk (nursing, pumping, and donor milk) among mothers. and to remove to taboo of public breastfeeding from modern society.
