To the Person Offended By Breastfeeding

I’ve pretty much heard it all by now. “I’m all for breastfeeding, but… as long as you do it in private, as long as you go to the bathroom, as long as you cover, as long as I don’t have to see it.” “I don’t want my kids/husband to see that.” “That’s so gross.” “Why can’t you just put it in a cup?” And on and on with the stipulations that people love to put on other people’s behavior.

Well, I have a few questions…

Did you know that there are children in this world that don’t have access to clean water or consistent food? It’s true, there are starving families all over this planet. People whose bones show through their skin and who go to sleep at night with a feeling of hunger in their stomachs that you cannot comprehend.

Did you know that the people who manufacture and sell you your processed foods, pesticide-soaked produce and GMOs know exactly how bad it is for us? Did you know that they know way more about how terrible it is for us than we know? Did you know that they pay gobs of money specifically for the purpose of keeping this information out of our hands?

Have you heard of human trafficking? It’s a real thing. It’s when people are traded for the purpose of exploitation or commercial gain. Yeah, people. It’s actually quite offensive and atrocious.

Did you know that a lot of the information that you get from authoritative companies and individuals is wrong? Did you know that misinformation and blatant lies are thoughtfully spread to the masses to control our behavior for profit? You’re being lied to, you’re being lied to, you’re being to.

Did you know that children are physically, sexually and emotionally abused every single day? Yep, it happens every day! Most of these kids will never speak out for fear of retaliation. They are threatened, violated, beaten and demoralized and it will never be reversed.

So the next time you look at a mother nursing her child and feel offended please get some perspective. You might not like women or children or you just haven’t seen breastfeeding that often. Or you might feel threatened by the love and nurturance going on right in front of your face like nature was giving you a motorboat. Or you might just be one of those people that likes to be offended and has something to say about every person that is just trying to live their life. Whatever the reason is that you have this surge of negativity in your gut when you see a mother breastfeeding her child please check yourself. It is a mother and a child. There are many things in this world that deserve your offense.
